Admitting Defeat...

For a couple of months, we've been planning this huge cabin trip to Tahoe since our east coast friends were coming out to visit. We got a pimped out cabin, secured that Alice and I would handle the food and alcohol, got people to drive, and just plain needed to wait. In the time that we've waited, however, I've been surprised with flaky people and a very last minute announcement of a wedding that I'm in. Guess which weekend the wedding is? This damn weekend! The same weekend of this huge cabin trip that I've been talking smack about and looking forward to. The same weekend we'd kick East Coast and Canadian (2 cabins worth of Canadians, west coasters, and east coasters) butt on the slopes.

The wedding's on Saturday but the trip's planned for Thursday until Sunday. (I even secured Friday as a vacation day!)I figured I could at least go Thursday night until Friday night and head up with a girl friend and her brother. The other day, though, I found out that my girl friend has bruised her ribs and cannot make it anymore. I have a ride up but no ride back down Friday night. I checked Greyhound, airplane tickets, and even got a suggestion to take a sea plane, but all seem so ridiculously inconvenient for me and the people I'm going with. Shall I admit defeat? Sooo close. I'm tempted. Why can't I just be able to beam myself back to the bay area on Friday night with the twitch of my nose? (Damn Star Trek and Bewitched for putting these ideas in my head!)

As the magic eight ball would say, "Doesn't look promising..."

UPDATE: I must be nuts. This SHALL work. =P

Jimmy Carter

For the 2nd time in my life, I was able to see Jimmy Carter speak at work. While last year's was a blur because we were so far in the back of the crowds of people, this year we got really good seats. Highlights of the talk included one of his staff talking about Guinea Worm Eradication and the other was a paraphrased quote that Jimmy Carter, himself, said to us:

A superpower isn't someone who can drop nuclear bombs. A superpower is someone who takes a stand - Do you stand for justice, peace, etc? Do you think of generosity? To me, that's what a superpower is.

CES' last day...

It's the last day of CES and I can honestly say I'm pooped. Days at the booth demo'ing Blogger and evenings battling the Vegas restaurants, the monorail, taxis, and lounges/bars/clubs. People have come up to the booth praising Google and Blogger, asking really interesting questions, and have been telling me about how they're using their blogs.

I haven't had too much time to wander the conference but what I do hear is that all people are giving away this year are pens and candy. That's so not cool (But this is!). ha ha I do, however, want to go see the 102" plasma at the Panasonic booth. Can you imagine playing a video game or even watching tv on that sucker? *Drool*

I've talked so much the last few days that I think I'll be in need of some antisocial time. (Plus, my voice is shot. I feel like I'm whispering the demos today.) It'll be a perfect time to finish the rest of Season 3 for 24 and then start Season 4. Or maybe even finish reading Memoirs of a Geisha so that I can finally watch the movie.

All I know is that I cannot wait to be in my own room, in my own bed, curled up with a book or my tivo. I can't wait to sit in my own car, blasting some Jim Brickman. The small things. I will so appreciate them once I get home.

ARGGGHHH

this is for Kimmy...

I dislike...hate...abhor... my "best friend" ... I have so many stories for you.

CES 2006

You'd think with all the demo'ing I'm doing of Blogger that I'd have every reason to update my blog. Finally, I am... I'm at CES in Vegas at the moment and I'm hurting... bad... I went to a Microsoft party at Caesar's (Pure) last night that had open bar. Great idea! Especially when I needed to work at 830 this morning. NOT. I woke up and I was still drunk.

The Killers performed at it, but by the time we got in, it was done. Boohoo. So close yet still so far away. I did catch a glimpse of the Pussycat Dolls in the side room though, and my drunken butt forgot to moblog it. FIRED.

So if you're at CES this weekend, come by the Google booth. You'll see me nursing my coffee while I show the world what Blogger's about. =)

(There you go Rodney. Proof that I did not move to Zimbabwe.)
